Since the dawn of architecture, man has glorified God by erecting buildings like no other of their time.  The sacred places of the 21st century are no different in they are unlike no other structures of our time,  but unlike their historic counter-parts they are not reflections of painted angels, heavenly reaching spires, and heavy gothic architecture, but of the nature’s elements and principles of space, form, line and light.

From the tiny, yet inspired, Chilean Junquillos Chapel to the Finnish St. Henry’s Ecumenical Art Chapel, who’s structure is so surreal there are no words to describe it, Robert Klanten and Lukas Feireiss brought together  these and 90-some other awe-inspiring examples of the most modern religious architecture of our time.

On this special date 10-10-10, take a moment to be awed and inspired. Vist the site and watch Charles and Ray Eames’ video.

Created in 1968, the film “takes us on an adventure in magnitudes. Starting at a picnic by the lakeside in Chicago, this famous film transports us to the outer edges of the universe. Every ten seconds we view the starting point from ten times farther out until our own galaxy is visible only as a speck of light among many others. Returning to Earth with breathtaking speed, we move inward- into the hand of the sleeping picnicker – with ten times more magnification every ten seconds. Our journey ends inside a proton of a carbon atom within a DNA molecule in a white blood cell.”

Fascinating–one you’ll want to watch over and over again! Visit the the blog at http://blog.powersof10.com/.

Barlas Baylar and his company are taking design and furniture making to a whole new level. From salvaged or wind-damaged trees that lived for 250 to 300 years, Hudson Furniture is creating functional art. None of the wood they use is harvested from old growth forests. Barlas Baylar, designer and founder of the company says, “We put high regard and value on these trees by turning them into pieces of enduring art instead of leaving them out to decay.”

We are in awe of their completed work—beautiful modern furniture brought to life from age-old wood. Hudson dining tables are created from woods that include claro walnut, acaia and teak. Their artisans use traditional techniques and apply hand-rubbed oil finishes. The table tops are then combined with wood, metal or Plexiglas bases. Because each tree is unique, each table becomes a one of a kind piece of art.
